Getafe made the perfect start to their 2025/26 La Liga campaign with a hard-fought 2-0 away win against Celta Vigo at Balaídos on Saturday evening. Second-half goals from Adrián Liso and Christantus Uche sealed the three points for José Bordalás’ side, who showed composure and discipline throughout the contest.

Tight First Half at Balaídos

The opening 45 minutes saw both sides struggle to carve out clear chances in a cagey affair. Celta Vigo, buoyed by their home crowd, looked to dictate play through midfield, but Getafe’s compact defensive shape frustrated the hosts.

Gabri Veiga and Iago Aspas tried to spark Celta into life with probing runs, while Getafe relied on counterattacks through Mason Greenwood and Óscar Rodríguez. However, both goalkeepers went largely untested, and the teams headed into the break goalless.

Liso Breaks the Deadlock

Just two minutes after the restart, Getafe found the breakthrough. A well-worked move down the left saw Greenwood slip a clever pass into the path of Adrián Liso, who coolly slotted past Vicente Guaita to make it 1-0 in the 47th minute.

The early second-half strike shifted the momentum firmly in Getafe’s favour. Celta attempted to respond quickly, pushing men forward, but struggled to break down a resolute backline marshalled by Djene Dakonam.

Uche Doubles the Lead

With Celta chasing an equaliser, spaces began to open up, and Getafe capitalised. In the 72nd minute, substitute Christantus Uche pounced on a loose ball after a defensive lapse and fired home with confidence to double the visitors’ lead.

The goal effectively killed off Celta’s hopes of a comeback. Despite late pressure and a few speculative efforts from distance, the Galician side could not find a way past David Soria, who stood firm in the Getafe goal.

A Statement Win for Getafe

The 2-0 victory marked an ideal start for Getafe, who not only secured three points but also a clean sheet away from home. Adrián Liso’s composure and Uche’s impact off the bench highlighted the attacking depth in Bordalás’ squad, while their defensive discipline reflected the team’s trademark resilience.

For Celta Vigo, it was a frustrating evening in front of their supporters, with plenty of possession but little end product. They will need to find sharper attacking solutions quickly if they are to avoid a sluggish start to the season.
