Agent: ‘Germany or England would be much more interesting for Zhang’
Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse and Yuning Zhang and his agent have been negotiating about a new contract for months. The talented Chinese striker’s contract is expiring, but contains a clause that allows Vitesse to extend the contract with one year. The Arnhem side are however hoping to extend for three years with Zhang.
According to the Gelderlander the biggest issue the parties will have to overcome is formed by the market value of the 19-year old. His management sees Zhang as the posterchild for Chinese football and because of this would rather see him play in a bigger competition.
“In China everyone is following the news around Zhang. But the Eredivisie is just a small market in Asia. For Yuning playing in Germany or England would be much more attractive when it comes to marketing and sponsoring possibilities.
Despite this Vitesse are still hoping to reach an agreement with Zhang. The club is aiming for a 3-year contract for the striker. “And that takes time”, claimed club director Joost de Wit. The chances of Zhang leaving Vitesse this summer as a free agent are considered non excistent as the club is determined to trigger the extension clause that will him keep under contract for at least one more year.
