Manchester City plan on taking over Shenzhen FC

Chinese local media sources report today that Manchester City Football Club and their investment partners have met with Shenzhen Investment Promotion Agency about a potential take over or partnership.

The groups discussed the creation of a youth based football project in Shenzhen and the future establishment of Manchester City Football Academy in Shenzhen, China aswell as the City group’s fifth foreign football club: Shenzhen City Football Club.

Not too long ago Shenzhen FC appointed former legendary midfielder Clarence Seedorf as the new headcoach. So far without too much success as the team dropped from being title contenders to being in 7th place in the Chinese League One, partly due to a 5-2 loss to Fabio Cannavaro’s Tianjin.

Manchester City does seem to believe in the club’s future as they have recently made visits to the club and discussed a possible partnership. For the Chinese club and nation this would be another step in the right direction, as the main goal Chinese football any everyone involved is now to expand their international reputation.

City Football Group shareholders Abu Dhabi royal family have made it their goal to have atleast one ‘City’ club in every continent and are well on their way to reach this target. Other non-UK teams currently under the City flag are New York City FC, Melbourne City FC, and Yokohama F Marinos from Japan.
