Why you should watch the Super League today

On days like today it may seem like an eternity before the decent football games kick off. You’re going trough your FPL team for the 82nd time and your cursing yourself for not picking Aguero this year. But don’t worry, we found the perfect solution for you.

The Chinese Super League’s starting times are often very convenient for European football fans. Usually games start either 08:30 in the morning, or 12:35 in the afternoon. And today that means before the Premier League action starts you get to watch some high level football at SkySports 3.

Featuring Jiangsu Suning and Beijing Guoan, the Super League will not disappoint - especially since the stakes just got higher. A few weeks ago the title race seemed over as Guangzhou Evergrande had a firm grip on 1st place and looked to be a certainty for their next league victory.

But August has been very unkind to the reigning Champions and if Jiangsu manage to get the win today, the gap between them and Guangzhou will be just 6 points.

If this is no reason enough for you to tune in today, we will give you three more. As if you needed them..

1. Goals - Remember one of the first Super League games to be broadcasted on Sky? With a 3-3 draw Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou RF captured the hearts of many as they played what seemed a commercial for Chinese football.

And today won’t be any different. Jiangsu Suning have scored in 91% of their home games, with more than half of their games ending with more than 2.5 goals being scored. Add to this the addition of their newest striker Roger Martinez and you are sure to see goals.

Martinez scored 5 times so far in his first 3 Super League appearances and the destined Internazionale striker does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

2. Alex Teixeira - Remember the name? The Brazilian wonder boy was close to signing with Liverpool last year before Jiangsu picked him up. He is entertaining Chinese football fans every week with his amazing abilities. Some of his goals and assists are absolute world class, so keep and eye on him at all time.

3. Entertainment. The style of play for most teams in the Super League is different than the style of European sides. Where in Europe some teams will be happy to let a game bleed dry hanging on to a one goal lead, in China this is a bit different.

The pace of play is very high and the ball gets moved around a lot, especially up and down the pitch. This results in some very entertaining football and lots of changes in the play. You will be on the edge of your seat for the full 90 minutes.

Make sure that when you tune in, you also join in on the live Twitter chat for the game. Every weekend FCInsider organizes a chat at hashtag #SkyCSL for people to discuss the game or ask any questions they might have.
