Seedorf: ‘Happy with four goals at home’

Last night former European football legend Clarence Seedorf made his home debut in Shenzhen. With a 4-2 home victory against Shanghai Shenxin Seedorf did so in style. Despite keeping the 3 points at home, Seedorf saw room for improvement.

After the game the new Shenzhen manager took his time for a word with the media. While being clearly optimistic Seedorf also pointed out some things that needed to change:

“Before the game I was actually very confident, because we trained very well this week. I told the players : in the game it’s the most important thing to translate the things from the training to the pitch. Great players implement the advice of the coaching staff in their game.”

“We continued on with last weeks great fighting spirit. And of course, there are some things that need improvement. We conceded two goals today and obviously that is not a good thing. However, to score four goals in my first home game makes me very happy.”

Speeking of the most critical factors needed to win in football, Seedorf said: “I think the most important thing is to know ourselves as a team - to know our strenghts and weaknesses. When we also know those from our opponents we need to try our best to limit their strenghts.”

“Today two defenders did very well, but it makes no sense to mention any names because everyone on the pitch did very well. They really thought as one team and worked together very well. At some times they looked a little bit too relaxed and I think this is why we conceded these two goals. At a football field you can not relax for even one moment.”

When being asked how he was going to celebrate last nights victory, Seedorf said with a smile: “After winning a game I like to enjoy a good dinner.”
