INSIDER: ‘Hangzhou Greentown approach Sammir as Cahill’s replacement’

We know the Chinese Super League transfer window is always a guarantee for some excitement, but these last couple of days have been very active ones to say the least. Jiangsu Suning today announced not one but two transfers of new players. With the arrival of two foreign reinforcements it does mean the Super League outfit will have to cut just as many foreign spots.

While some players like Trent Sainsbury or Alex Teixeira are certainly not going anywhere anytime soon - some others are clearly moving towards the exit. Sammir is one of those players. The Brazilian native with a Croatian passport has never been a first choice for either of this seasons Jiangsu headcoaches.

Sammir arrived at Jiangsu in February 2015 signing a three year deal. Although the midfield player was born and raised in Brazil, he spent most of his footballing days in Croatia. Before moving to China the 7-time Croatia and Brazil U18 international played for Dinamo Zagreb for seven seasons.

After one season with Spanish club Getafe Sammir moved to the far east. Because of Jiangsu’s constant need for big names competition has been fierce. In midfield Ramires and Alex Teixeria are the more popular choices and with the arrival of more foreign players Sammir seems to have no future at Jiangsu.

Local media do report that Hangzhou Greentown are looking to sign the attacking midfield player as a replacement for Tim Cahill. The Australian superstar today announced his departure from Hangzhou as he wishes to focus more on his family.

The situation seems ideal for all parties involved. The youngsters of Hangzhou Greentown could benefit greatly from the presence of a seasoned vet like Sammir. It is expected the transfer will be announced as soon as this weekend.
